Decosan's “Seismic Zone” earthquake-safe evacuation technology
At the Istanbul Elevator Fair, Decosan Elevator, one of Turkey's leading domestic manufacturers, attracted significant attention with its “Seismic Zone” earthquake-safe elevator system. Among the technologies that can save lives in high-risk earthquake zones, Sismik Zone is the first domestically produced elevator system that is fully compliant with the TS-EN 81-77 standard. Developed exclusively by Decosan engineers, this system offers an innovative approach based on both structural integrity and user safety.
Earthquake-specific design and engineering calculations
One of the most striking aspects of Sismik Zone is that it is based on detailed engineering calculations that take into account the seismic design acceleration coefficient of the region where it will be implemented. Guide systems reinforced with 125 mm special rails prevent deformation during horizontal oscillations, ensuring safe operation. Additional structural reinforcements in the cabin and counterweight systems, increased sheet thickness in the suspension elements, and rigidity-providing intermediate bases placed between the counterweights ensure the system is durable and impact-resistant.
Intelligent earthquake response mechanism: Detects the signal, initiates evacuation
Sismik Zone detects the P wave in the initial phase of an earthquake, automatically activating the system. The cabin and counterweight are moved in opposite directions to balance the system, safely transporting passengers to the nearest floor. This means that the evacuation process is completed before the destructive S wave arrives.
In addition, the motor and regulator connections are also designed to withstand earthquake forces. Special locking mechanisms are integrated to prevent passengers from opening the door in a panic, ensuring that control of the system is always maintained.
Compliance with global standards through local production
Developed entirely with local engineering and production capabilities, Seismic Zone stands out for its applicability in both newly constructed buildings and existing structures. The system is not just a product; it also presents a vision for earthquake-prone countries.
