Traceability Has Become the Cornerstone of Quality and Safety in the Elevator Industry

During the third session of the panel organized by the Konya Branch of the Mechanical Engineers Association, Metin İlhan Başpınar, Production Manager at EKA, comprehensively evaluated the critical role of traceability in the elevator industry, from production to installation, service, and warranty processes. Emphasizing that traceability is not merely a quality control tool but also a management tool that establishes institutional trust, Başpınar highlighted the indispensable role of planned process management supported by digital tracking systems for the sector's sustainability.

Explaining that traceability systems operating on the “Plan, Implement, Measure, Report” cycle enable both the early detection of errors and the establishment of rapid intervention mechanisms, Başpınar provided examples of the efficiency gains achieved through tools such as QR codes and Kanban. Additionally, it was noted that Integrated Management Systems (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001) centralize information flow and strengthen internal quality culture.

Başpınar emphasized that traceability is no longer an optional feature but a vital necessity in systems that transport people, such as elevators, and stated that the sector's long-term competitive strength depends on the extent to which it adopts this culture.

Key Points:

  • The “Plan-Do-Measure-Report” approach forms the basic framework for traceability
  • QR codes and Kanban systems enable digital transformation in process tracking
  • Integrated Management Systems foster information integrity and a quality culture
  • Traceability is not just about quality; it is also a matter of customer trust and legal responsibility
  • Process-oriented thinking and transparent reporting are the fundamental drivers of sectoral development
  • Digital tracking is essential for early detection of poor quality production and potential errors
  • In industries focused on human safety, traceability is more than just a standard practice—it is a necessity
  • Competitive advantage is directly linked to how traceable and measurable processes are
