Turkish machinery industrialists, including elevator and component exporters, sent 3.1 million tons of goods abroad and exported machinery worth 17.1 billion dollars in 2020. Machinery production has shrunk by 5 percent worldwide in 2020, and machinists, who have achieved a 7 percent increase in production, have gained great momentum.
With the impact of its engineering capabilities and competitive prices, the Turkish machinery sector exports high-quality products to more than 220 countries. Machinery exports worth $17.1 billion made by sector professionals in 2020 contributed 10.9 percent to Turkey's total exports.

The sector's foreign trade scorecard for 2020
The Turkish elevator sector closed in 2020, which was plagued by corona and economic crises, without losing exports. In the whole of 2020, the sector increased its total exports by approximately 7 percent and increased its exports of 229 million 460 thousand 456 dollars in 2019 to 245 million 105 thousand 986 dollars. The sector provided a value of 245 million 105 thousand 986 dollars in 2020 from elevator exports of 128 million 136 thousand 363 kilograms.
Our exporters, in the category of "Lifts and Accessories", closed the year 2020 with a foreign trade surplus, and maintained the output they had achieved in exports. The Turkish elevator sector, which is one of the rare industries with a foreign trade surplus in Turkey, exported 245 million 105 thousand 986 dollars’ worth of exports against 111 million 872 thousand 616 dollars of imports and gave a foreign trade surplus of 133 million 233 thousand 118 dollars.
In 2019, package elevator exports worth 113 million 662 thousand 732 dollars increased by 11.11 percent to reach 127 million 88 thousand 400 dollars. Turkish elevator exporters increased component exports, albeit limited. In 2019, the sector exported components worth 115 million 797 thousand 724 dollars. In the whole of 2020, component exports worth 117 million 223 thousand 586 dollars were achieved.
In 2020, the Turkish elevator sector, which recorded a value of 245 million 105 thousand 986 dollars from 128 million 136 thousand 363 kilograms of elevator exports, sent the most package elevators to Algeria with 22 million 418 thousand 844 dollars. In Component, Saudi Arabia was the country that sold the most components with a volume of 10,980,328 dollars.
The sector gave a foreign trade surplus of 133 million 233 thousand 118 dollars
In 2020, the Turkish elevator sector realized foreign trade worth a total of 356 million 978 thousand 854 dollars. In 2019, the total foreign trade of the sector was worth 328 million 102 thousand 112 dollars.
Turkish elevator sector last year 85 million 194 thousand 251 dollars’ worth of package elevators and 26 million 678 thousand 616 dollars’ worth of components imported, a total of 111 million 872 thousand 616 dollars’ worth of imports realized.
Elevator exports increased by 12.51 percent
Looking at the whole last year, it was seen that the export value of package elevators increased by 12.51 percent. The value of 113 million 662 thousand 732 dollars obtained from package elevator exports in 2019 reached 127 million 882 thousand 400 dollars in 2020.
In 2020, there was also an increase in the value of package elevator imports. In 2019, 76 million 583 thousand 972 dollars’ worth of package elevator imports, in 2020 85 million 194 thousand 251 dollars reached the value.
In package elevator exports, the sector gave a foreign trade surplus worth 42 million 688 thousand 149 dollars in 2020.

A portion of 61 million 773 thousand 561 dollars of package elevator imports worth 85 million 194 thousand 251 dollars made in 2020 was imported from China. China was followed by Germany with 5 million 486 thousand 947 dollars, Slovakia with 2 million 569 thousand 183 dollars, Italy with 1 million 987 thousand 349 dollars, and Spain with 1 million 232 thousand 854 dollars.
In 2020, the component export of the Turkish elevator sector was 117 million 223 thousand 586 dollars. In 2019, this figure was 115 million 223 thousand 586 dollars.
Component imports reached 26 million 678 thousand 616 dollars last year. That value was $ 22,57,684 in 2019.
In its component foreign trade in 2020, the sector had a foreign trade surplus of 90 million 544 thousand 970 dollars.
In the first six of 2021, the sector increased its exports by 22.5 percent compared to the previous period
The Turkish elevator sector increased its exports by 22.5 percent in the first 6 months of 2021 compared to the previous period. The sector, which exports 111 million 74 thousand 87 dollars in the first six months of 2020, increased its exports to 136 million 163 thousand 51 dollars in the first half of this year. The sector exported 55 million 343 thousand 961 kg elevators in the first six months of 2021.
In the first six months of 2021, imports of the sector also increased two times compared to the previous year. Imports of elevators and components, which were 45 million 699 thousand 806 dollars in the first six months of 2020, rose to 91 million 932 thousand 650 dollars in the first half of 2021.
- Elevator exports increased to 68 million 868 thousand 568 dollars
In the first six months of 2021, the elevator sector achieved a value of 68 million 868 thousand 568 dollars from 20 million 993 thousand 284 kg of elevator exports. In the same period of 2020, this value was 57 million 28,395 dollars.
- The increase in elevator imports draws attention
In the first six months of 2021, the increase in elevator imports compared to the previous period was remarkable. Elevator imports, worth 33 million 285 thousand 837 dollars in the first six months of 2020, increased by 119 percent in the same period of this year and became 73 million 46 thousand 834 dollars.
- Component exports worth 67 million 294 thousand 483 dollars were achieved in the first six months of the year.
The sector also recorded an increase in its component exports. The sector, which gained 54 million 45 thousand 692 dollars from 27 million 114 thousand 794 kg elevator exports in the first six months of 2020, gained 67 million 294 thousand 483 dollars from 34 million 350 thousand 677 kg component exports in the same period of this year.
Component imports, on the other hand, amounted to 18 million 885 thousand 816 dollars in the first six months of 2021. In the same period of last year, 12 million 413 thousand 969 dollars’ worth of components were imported.
- Foreign trade surplus was 44 million 230 thousand 401 dollars.
The total foreign trade of the sector in the first six months was 228 million 95 thousand 701 dollars. The sector had a foreign trade surplus of 44 million 230 thousand 401 dollars in the first six months of 2021.
- Elevator exports to Algeria decreased by 55.6 percent.
When the export figures for 2021 are analyzed, one of the most striking data was the decrease in elevator exports to Algeria, one of the leading export markets. In the first six months of 2020, elevator exports worth 14 million 315 thousand 546 dollars were 6 million 345 thousand 826 dollars in the same period of 2021. During the period in question, 7 million 489 thousand 684 dollars were exported to Russia and 7 million 818 thousand 195 dollars’ worth of elevator exports to Ukraine.
